    • The invention concerns a method of manufacturing pigment-containing single or multi-layer, biaxially oriented polymer film suitable for printing on (synthetic paper). In the method proposed, a melt of one or more mixtures composed of the film-forming polymer(s), pigments and fillers plus, optionally, other additives is extruded through one or more film dies, the extruded melt is allowed to solidify as a film to form a cast film and the temperature and thickness of the primary film thus formed controlled in such as way that it reaches the degree of crystallization required for subsequent stretching and a temperature suitable for such stretching, the primary film is sequentially or simultaneously stretched biaxially in the longitudinal and transverse directions; and the single- or multi-layer biaxially oriented film thus formed is cooled. In order to manufacture directly film with a thickness of up to 250 mu m, the temperature of the primary film is controlled in the range between the solidification temperature and the temperature required for stretching in such a way that the primary film is never cooled below the temperature required for stretching, and the length of time between solidification and stretching is selected so that that crystallization of the film-forming polymer between the filler and pigment particles embedded in it is essentially completed before stretching is carried out.
