    • This device is an improvement on an internal combustion engine (ICE) in that the device is a hybrid of an ICE directly linked to a heat engine (HE) via an adjustable transmission to drive the power shaft for the transmission for the car, boat, generator or other equipment. The improvement provides a means of directly receiving the heat from the exhaust of the ICE and using it to power the HE which is linked via an adjustable transmission, such as a continuous variable transmission (CVT). This linkage allows the HE to use the power of the ICE to start turning until the HE has warmed up enough that it can contribute power to the ICE crank shaft, and subsequent final common power shaft for the two engines, such that it acts as a unified, hybrid motor that powers the transmission of a truck, generator or other equipment.

    • A computer based teaching system for teaching a air traffic controller skills comprises: a plurality of lesson sections, each for presenting to a student, via a computer, theory underlying one or more skills required for competent air traffic control; and a plurality of exercise sections, each for providing, via a computer, an exercise in the form of an interactive scenario on a simulated air traffic control system, using which a student may practice air traffic control skills. The system preferably comprises a number of units useable sequentially in a predetermined order to sequentially teach to a student a plurality of air traffic control skills, which together comprise at least a subset of the skills required of an air traffic controller.

    • In one aspect, the invention provides a lesson construction method comprising: providing data to define a virtual traffic area; providing data to define at least one virtual vehicle in the traffic area; providing data to define a display representing movement of said at least one virtual vehicle in the virtual traffic area; providing at least one control data input receptor for receiving traffic control commands; providing at least one instructional data input receptor for receiving instructional explanatory data relating to at least one of traffic movement and input traffic control commands; providing a simulation system for calculating movements of said at least one vehicle taking into account input traffic control commands; providing a recordal system for recording the instructional data and data defining the vehicle movements; and wherein construction of the lesson includes: (a) input of at least one traffic control command and at least one item of instructional data; (b) operation of the simulation system; and (c) repetition of steps (a) and (b) to build a lesson providing a traffic control scenario annotated with instructional data.
