The first and second series of ribs angularly alternate around the first and second annular walls, and function both to stiffen the first and second annular walls and to limit penetration of the container neck finish between the first and second annular walls.

    • An apparatus for severing mold charges of molten plastic exiting an orifice (68) along an orifice axis includes a motor system (44) that provides a rotary output around an axis offset from the orifice axis. A blade arm (60) is eccentrically coupled to the rotary output of the motor system for motion in a plane at an angle to the orifice axis, preferably perpendicular to the orifice axis.     • A machine for compression molding plastic closures includes a support (39) mounted for rotation around an axis, and a plurality of compression molds (52) on the support at angularly spaced positions around the axis. Each of the molds includes a male mold section (54) and a female mold section (56), at least one of which is movable with respect to the other between a closed position to form a compression mold cavity and an open position spaced from each other. The male mold section includes a mold core (60) and a stripper sleeve (80) surrounding the mold core for movement both rotationally and axially of the mold core. A first screw drive (91) couples the female mold section to the stripper sleeve for rotating the stripper sleeve around the mold core as the at least one mold section is moved between the closed and open positions. A second screw drive (83) couples the stripper sleeve to the support to move the stripper sleeve axially over the mold core as the stripper sleeve is rotated around the core. The stripper sleeve thus rotationally and axially removes a closure shell molded around the core as the at least one mold section is moved with respect to the other from the closed toward the open position.

    • A child-resistant dispensing closure includes abase (32) having a deck (38) with a dispensing opening (42), a peripheral skirt (44) extending from the deck, and an inner wall (46) extending from the deck for securing the closure to a container. An axial passage (70) extends from the deck between the peripheral skirt and the inner wall, and opens radially outwardly through the peripheral skirt. A lid (34) is molded integrally with the base and is coupled by a hinge (36) to the base so as to be pivotable between a closed position overlying the deck and an open position spaced from the deck. The lid has a latch arm (82) that resiliently extends from a periphery of the lid. The latch arm has a pair of oppositely extending tabs (86, 88) for engagement with the ledges to lock the lid in the closed position. The latch arm is directly manually engageable by a user from a radial direction external to the closure to pivot the latch arm radially inwardly within the passage and release the tabs from the ledges so that the lid can be pivoted toward the open position drawing the latch arm out of the axial passage.
