A closure has at least one skirt (48, 50), at least one internal thread (52) on the skirt, at least one flexible resilient ratchet finger (54, 56) extending radially inwardly from the skirt at an angle to the skirt, and a seal element (68) within the skirt for sealing engagement with the end of the container neck finish. Threading of the closure onto the container neck finish brings the ratchet finger into engagement with the ratchet teeth. The array of ratchet teeth and the seal element are such as to accommodate tolerance variations in the blow-molded neck finish while maintaining a seal and child-resistance capability at the neck finish, hi an exemplary embodiment of the disclosure, there are a pair of angularly spaced ratchet fingers on the skirt, with the array of ratchet teeth, the seal element and the angular spacing between the ratchet fingers accommodating tolerance variations in the blow-molded neck finish. The closure preferably is a dual-wall closure having an internal skirt with the internal thread and an external skirt with the ratchet fingers.

The latch arm has a pair of oppositely extending tabs (86, 88) for engagement with the ledges to lock the lid in the closed position. The latch arm is directly manually engageable by a user from a radial direction external to the closure to pivot the latch arm radially inwardly within the passage and release the tabs from the ledges so that the lid can be pivoted toward the open position drawing the latch arm out of the axial passage.

The Hd is hinged to the base for movement between an open position spaced from the base and a closed position overlying the base. The base has a deck (50) with an outer surface, a dispensing opening (58), a radially inwardly and axially outwardly facing conical surface (56) extending from the dispensing opening to the outer surface of the deck, and a radially outwardly facing first snap/seal bead (52) surrounding the deck adjacent to the outer surface. The lid has a pintle (68 or 86) for receipt in the dispensing opening, a wall (70) spaced radially outwardly from the pintle and a radially inwardly facing second snap/seal bead (72) on the wall for engagement with the first snap/seal bead on the base. The pintle on the lid is sufficiently long as compared to the surrounding wall on the lid to engage the conical surface and align the snap/seal beads as the lid is moved toward the closed position and the snap/seal beads are spaced from each other. The second snap/seal bead is received by sealing snap-fit over the first bead and the pintle preferably is spaced from the dispensing opening in the fully closed position of the lid.
