A method for controlling engagement of a gear in a motor the method comprises the steps of a) displacing the shift fork (22) from its neutral position to the synchronizing position; b) while the shift fork (22) is in its synchronizing position, applying a first level of said control pressure to the first chamber (23) and a positive second level of said counter pressure to the second chamber (24), the first and second pressure levels being set so as to generate a net force towards the engaged position; c) when the shift fork (22) is moving from the synchronizing position to the engaged position, decreasing the control pressure below said counter pressure.
