摘要： Apparatus comprising a cylinder (2) having a piston (3) slidable in the cylinder (2), and a position measurement device (13) to determine the position of the piston (3). The position measurement device (13) is arranged on a side wall, of the cylinder (2) and is magnetically coupled to the piston (3) through the side wall. In one embodiment, the position measurement device (13) is a potentiometer having a fixed part (14) and a movable part (15). The fixed part (14) comprises elongate resistive and conductive elements arranged in spaced, parallel relationship along the length of the cylinder (2), and the movable part comprises a follower (15) to provide electrical contact between the resistive and conductive elements. The follower (15) is magnetically coupled to the piston (3) and an indication of the position of the piston (3) is provided by the electrical contact between the resistive and conductive elements as the follower (15) moves therealong in response to movement of the piston (3).

摘要： An ingestible device (10) for delivering a substance (12a) to a chosen location in the GI tract of a mammal includes a receiver of electromagnetic radiation for powering an openable part of the device (10) to an opened position for dispensing of the substance (12a). The receiver includes a coiled wire (29) that couples the energy field, the wire (29) having an air or ferrite (36) core. In a further embodiment the invention includes an apparatus for generating the electromagnetic radiation, the apparatus including one or more pairs of field coils (42) supported in a housing. The device (10) optionally includes a latch defined by a heating resistor (20) and a fusible restraint (19). The device (10) may also include a flexible member (51) that may serve the function of activating a transmitter circuit (28) to indicate dispensing of the substance; and means restraining a piston (16) used for expelling the substance.

This may use the diffraction of coherent or partially coherent light that is reflected or transmitted from the tissue. The tissue is illuminated with light from a source of substantially coherent light. The captured diffraction pattern image is analysed to search for at least one pattern.
