    • The invention is associated with a method for removal of water from the gas distribution channels of low temperature fuel cells like polymer electrolyte (PEM) fuel cells that provides improved fuel utilization and system efficiency. The method according to this invention has as its objective to provide a method for effective water management in the fuel cell stack with improved gas utilization and increased system efficiency. According to the invention cell plates (4) are made with hydrophilic gas channels (3), and all these gas channels are connected with a drain. The pressure in this drain is less than the gas pressure inside the gas channels providing the driving force for transport of the water to the drain.
