    • A composite fuel filter material which comprises (A) a support layer made of wet laid cellulose and/or synthetic fibers, (B) a barrier layer having wet laid glass fibers for providing increased efficiency to the filter material, (C) a thermosetting bonding agent dispersed through the composite and in an amount sufficient for bonding the composite into a strong, tear resistant and pleatable material, and (D) a water repellant agent dispersed in the composite for removing and coalescing water dispersed in a fuel to be filtered. In a preferred embodiment for a diesel fuel filter, the glass fibers have an average diameter of about 0.1 to 2.0 microns and the thermosetting bonding agent is an epoxy resin in the composite in an amount of between 1 and 5% by weight. A filter efficiency of at least 90% or even 99% can be achieved, along with a water removal of 90 to 99.9%.

    • A pleated filtration material (1) is provided with at least one filtration layer (2) and a stiffening layer (4). The method comprises preparing the filtration layer (2) as a non-woven layer of synthetic fibers, preparing the stiffening support layer (4) as a non-woven layer of synthetic fibers, with a majority of the fibers having an average denier at least two times the average denier of the synthetic fibers of the filtration layer (2) and sufficient in number and denier so that when attached to the filtration layer (2) produces a self-supporting composite (5), forming lines (7) of spaced apart perforations (6) in the support layer (4), attaching the perforated support layer (4) to the filtration layer (2) to form the composite (5) thereof, and pleating the composite filtration material (5) by folding the composite filtration material (5) along the lines (7) of the perforations (6) in the support layer (4).

    • A vertically lapped material for acoustic applications includes a first layer of material constructed from at least one layer of non-woven textile fibers. The at least one layer of non-woven textile fibers is folded into a plurality of folds to form a pleated structure. A depth of the pleats of the pleated structure determines a thickness of the first layer of material. Furthermore, at least one second layer of material is connected to the at least one first layer of material. A method of assembling a carpet to form a carpet assembly includes the steps of providing the above at least one first layer of material and a heated carpet; inserting the at least one layer in a cold mold adjacent to the heated carpet; and molding the at least one layer with the heated carpet in the cold mold to form the carpet assembly. It is unnecessary for the at least one layer to be preheated or premolded before insertion into the cold mold.
