    • The invention pertains to an alternating polyketone polymer composed of ethene and carbon monoxide units having a melting point above 240 DEG C and an intrinsic viscosity in the range of 0.3 to 2.5 dl/g, which was found to be so stable without additives that, after heating to above the melting point and cooling to room temperature, at least 40 % of the crystalline phase in the polymer has the alpha structure. Preferably, such a polymer is obtained by making use of a palladium complex-containing catalyst in the presence of methanol, and the obtained polymer is washed in methanol and/or 2,4-pentanedione, and/or converted to the crystallised form in a solvent that is inert toward the polymer. Preferably, the reactants are added to the lower half of the contents in the reactor, in particular near or at the bottom of the reactor. In particular, the polymers according to the invention are highly suitable for making products by melt-processing. The invention accordingly relates to melt-processed films and fibres of polyketone polymer of which at least 40 % of the crystalline phase has the alpha form, and to products manufactured using such films and fibres.

    • The invention relates to polyketone yarns of which the maximum tangential modulus at an elongation of more than 0,2 % is at least 10 N/tex which display both high strength and, if so desired, a high elongation at break. The quality number, which is measured on a single filament out of a bundle of at least about 30 filaments spun simultaneously through one spinneret and given as Ÿg(s,e), is higher than 85, preferably higher than 100. The quality number of a yarn spun through one spinneret of one or more holes is higher thant 110, preferrably higher than 120. The yarns are manufactured by extruding a solution of a linear polymer of alternating ethylene and carbon monoxide units in a resorcinol-containing solvent, after which the solvent is removed with the aid of methanol as coagulant.
