    • The elastomeric polyurethane interpenetrating network compositions of the invention are developed by in situ reaction of polyols with different isocyanates and polyisocyanates in bituminous material. (2) Suitable bituminous materials include asphalt, coal tar, polymer modified asphalt, oxidized, and unoxidized asphalt. (3) The composition is preferably formed at a temperature between 200 DEG F and 350 DEG F. The reaction kinetics can be accelerated by including catalysts and curing agents. (4) The bituminous polyurethane interpenetrating network elastomeric compositions were hot-sprayed-applied (200 DEG F-350 DEG F) on concrete, metal, wood, built-up roofing systems, polyurethane foams, and other construction materials with a specially designed spray applicator system. (1) The coated substrates were evaluated for their physical and mechanical properties, adhesion, static and dynamic puncture resistance, wind-up lift test, and other properties. Bituminous polyurethane interpenetrating network elastomers are suitable for roofing, new construction, and wall and foundation waterproofing applications (7).

    • The invention relates to a process for the preparation of a bituminous binder emulsion for making layers and/or coatings for road construction and/or civil engineering, comprising mixing a dispersing aqueous phase and a bituminous binder comprising an initial bitumen in the presence of at least one emulsifying agent, and obtaining a bituminous binder emulsion comprising a final bitumen with a decreased penetration grade, wherein at least 0.5 % by weight of an oxidizing agent, which is neither dioxygen nor ozone, is mixed with the dispersing aqueous phase or the bituminous binder before or during the mixing step, or is added in the mixture after said mixing step has been initiated. The invention also relates to a composition for preparing a modified emulsion and its use for making tack coats having a trackless finish.

    • One embodiment provides a process for preparing an asphalt-coated crumb rubber composition that meets the specification set forth in ASTM D80-02 or deviations thereof which may be established by the specifying agency from time to time. The process generally comprises obtaining asphalt of different penetration grades, combining the asphalt of each grade with preselected chemicals to form separate premixed components, blending the premixed components together under predetermined conditions to form, upon curing, an asphalt-coated crumb rubber composition that meets certain physical requirements for asphalt-rubber binder (ARB), such as those set forth in ASTM D8-02. Advantageously, the resulting asphalt-coated crumb rubber composition not only meets the physical requirements of ARB used in road paving but also has improved dispersion of the rubber, such as dispersion of the rubber in an oil-in-water emulsion of an asphalt.
