    • A method of producing many duplicate magnetic disks from a master disk at high speed using a simple device while preventing the demagnetization of the master disk. The disk for duplication has a magnetic layer including magnetic powder such as hexagonal ferrite crystals, a majority of which has the easy axis substantially perpendicular to the disk surface rather than along the tracks. The disk is placed in a manner that its magnetic layer is in contact with the magnetic layer of the master disk in which signals are recorded with magnetization along the tracks. The alternating magnetic field is applied over the disks in nearly a vertical direction, so that the signals of the master disk are transferred to the disk for duplication.

    • It is intended to provide a device relating to the separation (extraction or purification) of a biological component such as a nucleic acid or a protein from a liquid sample containing the biological component; a device for separating a biological component provided with, as means of separating, a chip constructed by bonding a pair of substrates, in which one or more channels are formed on the surface of at least one of the substrates, with the channel(s) facing inward and magnet-responsive grains; and a method of separating a biological component from a liquid sample with the use of the above-described device which comprises: (a) the step of holding the device in such a manner that the bonding faces of a pair of the substrates are almost vertical to the horizontal direction; (b) the step of bringing the magnet-responsive grains into contact with the liquid sample containing the biological component and thus allowing the magnet-responsive grains to adsorb the biological component; (c) the step of separating the magnet-responsive grains having the biological component adsorbed thereby from the liquid sample; and (d) the step of separating the biological component from the magnet-responsive grains.
