摘要： Polymeric substrates, for example polyolefins such as polypropylene, can be made flame retardant by the incorporation therein of a synergistic mixture of (i.) at least one compound selected from the group consisting of nitroxyl stabilizers, hydroxylamine stabilizers, nitrone stabilizers, substituted hydroxylamine stabilizers, amine oxide stabilizers, benzofuranone stabilizers, phosphite and phosphonite stabilizers, quinone methide stabilizers and monoacrylate esters of 2,2'- alkylidenebisphenol stabilizers and (ii.) at least one compound selected from the group consisting of brominated flame retardants, phosphorus containing flame retardants and inorganic flame retardants such as ammonium polyphosphate or decabromodiphenyl oxide; wherein the amount of organic or inorganic flame retardant of component (ii.) required to achieve an acceptable level of flame retardancy is significantly reduced compared to that needed when component (i. ) is not present.

摘要： Organic polymeric substrates, for example polyolefins such as polypropylene, can be made flame retardant by the incorporation of a synergistic mixture of (i) at least one low molecular weight sterically hindered alkoxyamine stabilizer, (ii) at least one high molecular weight sterically hindered alkoxyamine stabilizer and (iii) at least one conventional flame retardant selected from the group consisting of the organohalogen, phosphorus containing and melamine based flame retardants. The compositions of the invention combine good flame retardant properties with light stability and good mechanical properties. Polyolefin molded articles are stabilized against light, heat and oxygen and made flame retardant with the incorporation of at least one sterically hindered alkoxyamine and at least one conventional flame retardant, while allowing normally high levels of flame-retardant fillers to be greatly reduced or eliminated.

摘要： The present invention relates to two processes for providing stable liquid blends of a) pentaerythritol tetrakis(3-(3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)propionate, b) octadecyl 3-(3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)propionate and c) tris-(2,4-di-tert-butylphenyl)phosphite. The first process comprises preparing a solid mixture comprising about 2 parts to about 3 parts by weight a), about 2 parts to about 3 parts by weight b) and about 2 parts to about 12 parts by weight c), heating the mixture to 185°C or higher for a sufficient time to obtain a clear liquid blend of a), b) and c), cooling the liquid blend to a temperature of from 90°C to 140°C and maintaining the liquid blend at a temperature of from 90°C to 140°C. The second process comprises preparing a solid mixture comprising about 2 parts to about 3 parts by weight a) and about 2 parts to about 3 parts by weight b), heating the mixture to 90°C or higher for a sufficient time to obtain a clear liquid mixture of a) and b), adding about 2 parts to about 12 parts by weight c) thereto to obtain a clear liquid blend of a), b) and c) and maintaining the liquid blend at a temperature of from 90°C to 140°C. The liquid blends of a), b) and c) are stable at the temperature at which they are maintained for greater than 120 hours.

摘要： The present invention discloses a process for stabilizing polyolefin compositions against the deleterious effects of melt processing, heat aging and exposure to combustion products of natural gas, which process comprises incorporating or applying to a polyolefin an effective stabilizing amount of a tris(mono-alkyl)phenyl phosphite ester of the formula (I) or a mixture of phosphite esters of formula I, where each R is the same or different and is straight or branched chain alkyl of from 1 to 8 carbon atoms, and where said phosphite ester or phosphite ester mixture is in the liquid state at 25°C and 1 atm of pressure. Also disclosed is a stabilized composition comprising polyolefin and a present phosphite ester or phosphite ester mixture as well as certain mixtures of tris-(mono-alkyl)phenyl phosphite. The present liquid phosphite ester stabilizers are especially compatible with low density polyethylene.
