    • The present disclosure is directed to a scoring apparatuses and methods that improve a glass scoring process by reducing stresses placed on the glass during scoring. A scoring apparatus (2) includes: a housing (20) to which there is coupled a wheel anvil (22), an actuator (26), and a range finder (28); and a housing (40) to which there is coupled a score wheel (42) and an actuator (46). The actuator (26) drives a periphery of the wheel anvil (22) to a position, based on signals from the range finder (28), for supporting glass (4) during scoring. The actuator (46) drives the score wheel (42) so as to achieve a constant force against the glass. Accordingly, the wheel anvil (22) and the score wheel (22) may follow an out-of-plane contour of the glass 4 while maintaining contact therewith.
