    • Resin composites (10), which may be used as oxygen barrier films for preserving foods, include oxygen-resistant fillers (41), being filler materials (40) coated with porous crystalline charge-transfer complexes (CTCs) (20), that inhibit the passage of foreign molecules such as water or oxygen (30) through the film from an external side (50) to an internal side (60) by increasing the path (35) by which the molecules must travel. The composites may contain other resin or polymer components (25). The fillers may be flaked, oxygen-resistant fillers such as montmorillonite, bentonite, smectite, or artificial smectite. The CTCs may be derived from an organic acceptor such as tetracyanquinodimethane (TCNQ), trichloroethylene (TCE), and/or bis dithiobenzyl nickel; an organic electron donor such as bipyridine, pyridine, quinoline, isoquinoline, or tetrathiafulvalene (TTF); and a metal ion such as zinc, copper, iron, or nickel.
