    • An analysis system has a sample region (1), a source of excitation radiation (3), and a wavelength-nonspecific beam splitter (13) to deliver excitation radiation to a sample. A dispersion element (23) disperses returned radiation from the sample to be analysed that has been transmitted by the beam splitter. A selectively switchable micromirror devic (35) received returned radiation that has been dispersed by the dispersion element. A detector (43) detects radiation that is received from the switchable micromirror device. The switchable micromirror device removes at least a majo part of residual excitation radiation from the returned radiation that is passed to the detector. A method of quantifyi target analyte(s) in a sample includes receiving radiation from a sample region for each of a plurality of points along least part of the length of the sample region, and delivering at least some of the radiation to the detector.

    • An instrument including a clamping jaw with an anvil defining an elongated slot and staple forming cups on opposing sides of the elongated slot. A housing rotatably mounts on the anvil and a pusher rotatably mounts within the housing. A handle actuates the clamping jaw from the open to the intermediate position by rotating the housing towards the clamping jaw. To move from the intermediate position to the closed position, the pusher rotates towards the anvil. A staple cartridge, disposed in the housing, includes a staple track for retaining two rows of staples on opposing sides of the elongated slot. Two staple drivers align with the distal most staples. The drivers slidably mount in the staple cartridge and couple to the pusher such that each staple driver forces a staple into the forming cups and, in turn, staples the body tissue as the pusher rotates from the intermediate to closed position. A knife rotatably mounts on the staple cartridge and couples to the pusher such that the knife passes into the elongated slot and, in turn, cuts the body tissue as the pusher rotates from the intermediate to closed position.

The cellular telephone module is operable to transmit an SMS text message to a remotely accessible processor (10) when the medication container is accessed. The remotely accessible processor is associated with a store of information that includes the medication dosage schedule for the patient associated with the medication monitor. A sequence of alarms is generated if a confirmation signal is not received within a predetermined period after a scheduled dosage.

    • A vascular suturing device (10) is disclosed which includes an elongated tubular body defining opposed proximal and distal end portions and having a longitudinal axis extending therethrough, the body including an inner tubular member (26), an outer tubular member (22) and a central tubular member (24) disposed between the inner and outer tubular members. The inner tubular member and the central tubular member are mounted for movement relative to the outer member about the longitudinal axis of the body for sequentially driving a pair of suture needles (50a,b) through the wall of a blood vessel to close an incision formed therein. A vascular dilator (190) having a tapered distal tip portion (194) is slidably supported within the inner tubular member and is dimensioned to extend beyond the distal end of the inner tubular member for positioning the suturing device at the incision in the wall of the blood vessel. The dilator is configured to move axially between an extended position and a retracted position. A biasing element and a retaining pin are associated with a proximal end of the dilator. The biasing element is adapted and configured for urging the dilator in the retracted position and the retaining pin is positioned so as to secure the dilator in the extended position. The dilator may include means for directing blood flow from a distal tip portion of the dilator to a location remote from the blood vessel (e.g. obervations ports) for observation to confirm the position of the suturing device within the blood vessel.
