摘要： An apparatus and a method for the thermal management of an optical drive are disclosed. An optical drive (504, 506) for reading and/or writing data from and/or to a media, the optical drive having a drive rate F (520) and a buffer (512) having a buffer size B for buffering data, wherein the buffer (512) is transferring data to an application (508) or receiving data from an application (510) at an application data rate R (522) is provided. The optical drive (504, 506) is adapted to operate in an on and off duty cycle ratio during thermal management, the ratio being determined based on R (522) and F (520) and a maximum off duty time, in order to provide a transparent thermal management of the optical drive.

摘要： The present invention relates to a drive (2) for use in a computer or a reproduction device for accessing a record carrier. According to the invention via a specific action, supervised by the drive (2), the drive mimics the presence of a disc by sending a disc insertion message to the host (3). After that the drive (2) will give the host (3) (the virtual) file system contents of the virtual disc, which, for instance, contains a link to an auto-run file. This auto-run file tells the host (3) to perform certain actions, such as going to the specified internet site or executing a file from the virtual disc.

摘要： In accordance with the present invention, when a flashing is initiated a flashcode can be uploaded (310) to a flash only area of a reprogrammable non-volatile storage medium. Then, it is verified (320) whether the flashcode has been uploaded correctly to the flash only area. If the flashcode has not been uploaded correctly, the flashcode will be uploaded (310) to the flash only area again. When the flashcode has been uploaded correctly, a code segment of said reprogrammable non-volatile storage medium can be flashed (330) with new code in the next step. Thereafter, it is verified (340) whether the new code has been correctly written into the code segment. If the code was not satisfactorily written into the code segment, the code segment is flashed (330) again.

摘要： A method, a device, and a computer-readable medium for simulating a multilayer optical storage medium are disclosed. A multiple-layer optical storage medium is simulated by using a set of multiple single-layer media, wherein the number of multiple single-layer media is equal to or smaller than the number of multiple layers of the multiple layer optical storage medium, and each single layer of the set of multiple single-layer media comprises a copy of the corresponding layer of the multiple-layer medium. This is transparent to any application software accessing a device having such a single-layer medium inserted therein by the drive reporting to the application that a multi-layer optical storage medium has actually been inserted into the device for reading or writing. The device may be comprised in an audio-visual player and/or a recorder such as a DVD recorder.
