    • A method for molding an annular lip type shaft seal (10) of the type having an annular elastomeric shaft seal element (12) and a resin liner (14) (preferably polytetrafluoroethylene) integrally molded therewith and bonded thereto, including providing a step or shoulder (36) on the mold core (26) to prevent the resin liner (14) from flowing axially beyond a predetermined location during molding.     • A seal (10) for sealing between a splined shaft (30) and a housing (32) having a bore (34) through which the splined shaft (30) extends. The seal (10) includes a shell (12) and an elastomeric body (14) bonded thereto. The body (14) includes a mounting portion (16) and a toothed seal portion (18) having a plurality of seal teeth (42) that are matingly received in the grooves (48) in the splined shaft.     • One aspect of the present invention is a compression packing material that is constructed using interwarp knit construction techniques to form a sheath (14) having a plurality of base yarns (1) and a plurality of filler yarns. The filler yarns are positioned at predetermined locations within the sheath structure to give the sheath a predetermined geometric configuration, e.g., a square cross-section. The filler yarns are introduced into the sheath in a partially extended condition and are therefore at least partially compressible and extendible in a longitudinal direction. In this regard, the sheath (14) is at least partially longitudinally compressible along an inner radius when the packing material is bent around a shaft. The resulting effect of the compression along the inner radius is a reduction of "keystoning" of the packing material. Another aspect of the present invention is a compression packing material that is constructed using an interwarp-knit cord construction with localized distributions of yarns on selected sides thereof. Yet a further aspect of the present invention is a compression packing material that is constructed using an interwarp-knit construction with localized distributions of yarns on selected corners thereof.
