    • A bow-spring centralizer (6) includes bow springs (5), moving collars (11) secured to each end of each bow spring, and interlocked stop collars (10). Extendable collars (8) may each be formed of a moving collar (11) movably interlocked with a stop collar (10). The centralizer (6) may optionally be formed from a tube cut using a laser to create two extendable collars coupled by bow springs. Each extendable collar may include heads integrally formed on extensions protruding from a collar (stop collar or moving collar). The heads may be generally rectangular, arrow, or teardrop- shaped head or some other shape. Each head may be slidably captured within a chamber on the interlocked collar (moving collar or stop collar). The extensions of each interlocked tubular member define the outer walls of the chamber in which a head of the interlocked tubular member is slidably captured. The stop collars may include or cooperate with one or more fingers extending along a casing to be secured by a sleeve that forms an interference fit about the casing.

    • A control line guide and manipulating arm can protect and guide one or more control lines which are desired to be attached and lowered into a wellbore with a tubular string. The control lines may be moved toward a tubular string, can be clamped to the tubular string, and the tubular string and control lines may be lowered into the wellbore. When the elevator reaches a predetermined position, the spider slips are preferably set. To protect the control lines, the control lines are moved in a substantially radial direction outward from the tubular string. The spider slips are closed only after the control lines are retained outward. After another tubular joint is connected to the tubular string and the elevator grips the tubular string, the spider slips are preferably released. For easier attachment, of the control lines to the tubular string, the control lines are moved in a substantially radial direction toward the tubular string. As the tubular string and the control lines are lowered into the wellbore, the manipulator arm may again begin retracting to move the control lines away from the approaching elevator as well as to move the control lines out of the way of the movement of the spider slips. The control line guide, which preferably passes through the spider, protects the control lines from the spider slips by allowing the control lines to remain outside the path of the spider slips as they open and close.

    • An apparatus for deflecting a tubular string preferably comprising at least one side nozzle near the lower end of a first tubular string. The nozzle permits passage of a fluid therethrough from the first tubular string bore and deflects the first tubular string in a substantially horizontal direction. A second tubular string may be lowered over the deflected first tubular string. The second tubular string and the first tubular string are preferably lowered into the sea floor for maintaining their deflection. A method for deflecting a first tubular string and securing the first tubular string in the deflected state preferably comprises lowering the first tubular string axially so that the lower end of the first tubular string is near the sea floor. Preferably, a fluid, such as seawater, is propelled down through the bore of the first tubular string and through at least one side nozzle near the lower end of the first tubular, wherein the fluid moving through the side nozzle deflects the first tubular string. The first tubular string end is preferably lowered into the sea floor for maintaining the deflection of the first tubular string. A second tubular string may then be slidably lowered over the first tubular string for deflecting the second tubular string.

    • A wellbore tubular handling system and method is provided for operation in holding and lowering tubulars, such as casing strings (34), at a rig site. The handling system utilizes a plurality of interchangeable gripping modules (54) for use with both the elevator slips (78) and the spider (18). Because the gripping modules (54) are completely interchangeable, only one additional gripping module (54) is needed to provided 100 % redundancy at the well site to thereby reduce the equipment normally required by approximately 25 %. An elevator module (52) receives the interchangeable gripping module (54) therein. An interchangeable gripping module (54) may also preferably be flush mounted in many standard rotary table types. Alternatively a top mount spider module (140) is provided to receive a gripping module (54) for other rig floor (24) and/or rotary table constructions. The gripping module (54) has three inner support rings (80,82,84) and slips (78) between approximately one and two feet in length to permit high load support while protecting any thin walled casing that is used in the casing string (34).
