    • A method moderates an environment in an area where organic wastes are collected in a fluid containing compartment or drainage area. The method may be done by: a) collecting the organic waste in a fluid containing compartment, the organic waste generating or providing in or above the fluid containing compartment or storage area at least one secondary waste selected from the group consisting of carbon dioxide, hydrogen sulfide, ammonia, methane, mercaptans and organic acids; b) providing in the fluid containing compartment or drainage area a combination of i) a polymer capable of absorbing at least ten times its weight in water and ii) a combination of salts that react to liberate I2; or iii) a polymer capable of absorbing at least ten times its weight In water carrying I2 within the polymer and c) flocculating an at least some organic waste with liberated I2 to form a flocculent with the polymer, iodine and organic waste.
