    • The invention relates to a method of producing an article comprising an interpenetrating polymer network (IPN) and an article e.g. obtainable by the method. The method comprises i) providing an essentially transparent rubber substrate having a refractive index n 0 and being shaped to provide the desired shape of the article, and applying it in a reaction chamber, ii) providing a least one first monomer having a refractive index n 1 in homopolymerized condition wherein n 1 is lower than n 0 , iii) providing a least one second monomer having a refractive index n 2 in homopolymerized condition, wherein n 2 is higher than n 0 , iv) exposing said rubber substrate in said reaction chamber to said first and said second monomers to impregnate said rubber substrate with said monomers in the presence of an impregnation solvent comprising CO 2 under conditions wherein said CO 2 is in its liquid or supercritical state and v) co-polymerizing said first and said second monomers to form an IPN, wherein said at least one first monomer and said at least one second monomer are selected such that r 1 and r 2 independently of each other are 3 or less, where n = (Q 1 /Q 2 ) exp [-e1(e1 -e2)] and r 2 = (Q 2 /Q 1 ) exp [-e2 (e2-e1)] and Q 1 = denotes the intrinsic reactivity of the first monomer, Q 2 = denotes the intrinsic reactivity of the second monomer, and e1= denotes the polarity of the first monomer, and e2= denotes the polarity of the second monomer. The article comprises a body formed of a rubber substrate and an interpenetrating network of an interpenetrating copolymer and the article is essentially transparent.

    • The present invention relates to a method of coating a surface of a solid polymer substrate, e.g. comprising silicone, thermoplast, thermoset and/or elastomers, with a coating comprising a coat polymer. By use of the method the polymer substrate can be provided with a desired surface character e.g. with respect to its hydrophilic and/or oleophilic character. The method is in particular useful in the production of items for use in contact with the human body and/or laboratory utensils. The method comprises the steps of k) providing a coat polymer, such as a polymer polymer comprises one or more polymer having metacrylate backbone, for the coating, and dissolving said coat polymer in a first solvent, such as water, carbon dioxide and/or organic solvents, l) placing said solid polymer substrate in a reaction chamber m) introducing said polymer coat solution into the reaction chamber, 20 n) introducing carbon dioxide into the reaction chamber, and o) depositing the coating onto the solid polymer substrate surface, wherein the carbon dioxide during at least a part of the deposition step is in its liquid state at a pressure of 7.4 Mpa or less. Optionally the carbon dioxide is subjected to turbulence, e.g. by mechanical stirring during at least a part of the deposition step.
