    • The invention provides a process for the production of propylene copolymers which attains an excellent polymerization activity, permits high-temperature polymerization, and can give a propylene copolymer having a high molecular weight. The process comprises copolymerizing propylene with a comonomer in the presence of a catalyst consisting of both (a) a transition metal complex represented by the general formula (1) or (2) and a compound selected from among (b) compounds capable of reacting with the complex (a) to form inonic complexes, (c) organoaluminum compounds, and (d) organoaluminum oxy compounds: (1) (2) wherein R to R are each hydrogen, hydrocarbyl (except t-butyl), or the like (with the proviso that all of R to R are not hydrogen), and adjacent two of R to R may be united to form a ring; Y is a hydrocarbon group, silylene, or the like; A is a divalent hydrocarbon group having 2 to 20 carbon atoms; Z is carbon or silicon; M is Ti, Zr, Hf, or the like; X is halogeno, a hydrocarbon group, or the like; and j is an integer of 1 to 4.
