The body includes an anterior surface, a posterior surface opposite the anterior surface, and a fin on the posterior surface. A prosthetic foot can include a first footplate and a second footplate. The first footplate extends between a proximal portion and a distal portion. The proximal and distal portions of the first footplate are configured to operatively engage a support surface during ambulation. The second footplate extends between a proximal portion and a distal portion. The distal portion of the second footplate is coupled to the first footplate at an intermediate location between the proximal and distal portions of the first footplate. The second footplate incudes an anterior surface, a posterior surface opposite the anterior surface, and a fin on the posterior surface.

摘要： Battery operated prostheses and systems having increased energy efficiency are disclosed. A prosthesis includes a first and second limb member coupled to an actuator to form a joint. The prosthesis further includes a rechargeable battery electrically coupled to the actuator. The actuator uses energy received from the rechargeable battery to actuate the first limb member relative to the second limb member. During at least a portion of a gait cycle of a wearer of the prosthesis, the actuator converts kinetic energy into first electrical energy that is greater than second electrical energy supplied to the actuator from the rechargeable battery. The prosthesis further includes a recharging circuit. The recharging circuit can receive at least a portion of the first electrical energy from the electric actuator and can supply some of the at least a portion of the first electrical energy to the rechargeable battery to recharge the rechargeable battery.

A prosthetic foot can include a lower foot member (110) extending from a heel end (112) to a toe end (114), a second foot member (120) disposed above the lower foot member, and an optional third foot member (130) disposed above the second foot member. The second foot member is tapered such that its thickness decreases toward the proximal end. Optionally, the second foot member can taper toward its distal end as well as toward its proximal end from an intermediate location on the second foot member. The third foot member can be tapered such that its thickness decreases toward the distal end. There can be a gap between a distal end of the third foot member and the second foot member that closes during dorsiflexion of the prosthetic foot during use and provides dynamic stiffness control to the prosthetic foot.

The POD may be a lower or upper limb POD having one or more joints. One or more EMG sensors may detect the EMG signals. The EMG sensors may be external, subcutaneous, intraperitoneal, epimysial, intramuscular, or other types. Control of the POD may be based on EMG and non-EMG signals, such as velocity, acceleration, position, force, etc. Voluntary and/or automatic control may be implemented, for example with voluntary muscle contractions and/or data based on velocity, acceleration, position, force, etc. In some embodiments, the neutral position of an ankle POD is adjusted based on EMG signals.

The cuff can include a crutch support that allows the crutch to engage with a support. In some aspects, the cuff can include a rearward with particular friction properties. The cuff can include slots that allow for the height of the cuff to be adjusted.
