摘要： The present invention provides a device for holding a tongue to hold a person's airway open, for example when a person is unconscious. The device comprises a chamber (4) configured to snugly accommodate a tongue, and a resilient hollow bulb (1) that is in fluid communication with the chamber. The chamber has an open end (5) through which a person's tongue can project. The device is configured such that the deforming and releasing of the bulb creates a reduced pressure in the chamber, thereby retaining the tongue within the chamber. The device prevents the tongue from blocking the airway.

摘要： The present invention provides a transmitter unit (10) for an open path gas detector for detecting a target gas and comprises: a radiation transmitter (12), e.g. a tuneable laser diode, capable of emitting radiation at a wavelength absorbed by the target gas, and a radiation deflector, having a deflecting part and a non-deflecting part (15), e.g. a mirror having a non-reflective part. The deflecting part and the non-deflecting part are located in the path of the radiation emitted by the transmitter and the non-deflecting part does not deflect the said radiation emitted by the transmitter or does so to a different extent than the deflecting part. In this way, the beam has a core in shadow that can be used to align the beam with a receiver unit. The radiation deflector is preferably a mirror (14) having a reflective surface for reflecting radiation emitted by the transmitter and a non-reflective part (15) that does not reflect the said radiation emitted by the transmitter or does so to a lesser extent than the reflecting surface. The non-reflective part is preferably transparent so that it allows radiation to pass through it, which can be used to measure the wavelength of the transmitter and, if necessary correct it.

摘要： The present invention provides a method of making a cured material and cured materials made by the method. The method comprises compacting a mixture of: a) 4 % to 60 % of at least one oxidisable and polymerisable vegetable oil, e.g. an unsaturated vegetable oil; and b) 10 % to 96 % of a material having a high surface area between 1 and 5000 m2/g; c) 0 % to 80 % of filler having a surface area of less than 1 m2/g and d) 0 % to 10 % of other additives, e.g. plasticisers, pigments and catalysts; the percentages being calculated on the basis of the combined weight of a) to d), and curing the compacted mixture. The presence of the material having a high surface area causes the temperature in the compacted material to rise above the ambient temperature, thereby allowing the curing in a furnace with a lower ambient temperature (top two lines in Figure 1 ).

摘要： The invention provides a knitted spacer fabric having a tightly knitted bottom layer (10), a more loosely knitted upper layer (12) and linking fibres (14) extending across the space (16) between the lower and upper faces (10,12). Settable material, e.g. cement, is introduced into the space (16) between the upper and lower faces and can be caused to set by the addition of a liquid, e.g. water. Until set, the fabric is flexible and can be shaped but after the material in space (16) has set, the fabric is rigid and can be used as a structural element in a wide range of situations. The bottom layer (10) has an extension (24) that extends beyond the upper face (12) and is connected to the upper face by elastic connecting fibres (26) that draw the extension towards the other face, thereby at least partly closing the space at the edge of the cloth and preventing the settable material from spilling out. In addition, the packing of the settable material and maximum space between the faces are such that only a predetermined amount of liquid can be accommodated within the space and that amount is matched to the water required to set the cement.
