摘要： A bypass clutch damper for an automatic transmission torque converter includes a support plate (91) and a turbine rotor (26), both fixed to the transmission input shaft. The support ring defines annular spring pockets (92, 100) about the axis of rotation containing coiled helical springs (102), each spring (102) having one end contacting the support plate (91). The opposite end of each of the damper springs (102) contacts a drive ring of a torque converter clutch. A clutch plate (70) is fixed to an impeller cover (12), and a clutch piston (60), fixed to the cover (14), is hydraulically actuated to move toward the drive ring (74) and the clutch plate (70). Friction surfaces on the drive ring (74) are forced into frictional contact with the clutch plate (70) and piston (60) in accordance with differential pressure across the clutch piston. The drive ring (74), when engaged, compresses the springs and causes functional contact as the springs move in frictional contact with the surfaces of the spring pockets.

摘要： An exhaust system for an internal combustion engine (10) having an air pump (22) for pumping secondary air into the exhaust gases to permit secondary combustion or afterburning, comprises means (18) for cyclically regulating the air delivery rate by the air pump (22) in proportion and in synchronism with the exhaust flow rate in order to maintain a more constant exhaust/air ratio at the point of introduction of the secondary air into the exhaust stream. The air pump (22) of the preferred embodiment of the invention is a steady speed pump and flow regulation is effected by obstructing inlet flow area of the air pump by means of a rotating disc (18) driven by the engine.

Flow diverters are provided at the connections (22, 24) between the down pipe (10) and the auxiliary pipe (20) containing the catalytic converter (16) for inducing a proportion of the gases flowing in the main down pipe (10) to recirculate in the closed loop comprising the catalytic converter (16) and the section of the down pipe (10). The flow along the catalytic converter (16) is in the opposite direction to the flow along the section of the down pipe (10) and it tends to cool the exhaust gases prior their entering the catalytic converter (16).

摘要： A tube connector has a cylindrical body (26) into which a tube (14) with a shoulder (20) can be inserted to form a locked, fluid-tight joint. The tube (14) is first inserted into a collar (32) which provides the locking function, and the collar and the tube are then slid further into a cylindrical body portion (26) until the end of the tube is sealed against O-rings (28). During this sliding movement and once the seal is made, the collar is prevented from moving in a direction out of the connector body by sprag teeth supported on the collar (32) which bite into the connector body.
