    • The invention concerns a method for preserving vegetable products, in particular green beans enabling to prolong preservation beyond 21 days in heat-sealed trays. Said method uses films with adequate permeability measured with a decision support software to prolong preservation.     • A mobile container adapted for transporting perishable goods includes a front wall, a rear wall, a pair of side walls extending therebetween so as to define an elongated enclosure having a longitudinal axis and adapted to receive a cargo load. An air recirculation plenum is defined in the enclosure adjacent to the front wall. A refrigeration system is in fluid communication with the air recirculation plenum and is adapted to induct air at a first temperature and to exhaust air at a second temperature. A pair of air delivery plenums extend from the bulkhead along the length of the enclosure parallel to the longitudinal axis. Each of the pair of air delivery plenums is defined by a corresponding one of the pair of side walls and a plenum wall disposed spaced from the corresponding side wall and extending from the upper margins of the enclosure such that the plenum wall is adapted to be co-extensive and in abutting contact with a portion of the cargo load. The container also includes a source of pressurized air having an inlet in fluid communication with the exhausted air from the refrigeration system and an outlet in fluid communication with the pair of air delivery plenums. A return air plenum is defined between the air delivery plenums such that the cool air is supplied under pressure along the longitudinal length of the enclosure paralled to and adjacent the pair of side walls and then flows through the cargo load in a direction substantially transverse to the longitudinal axis into the return air plenum whereafter the air flows substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis back to the air recirculation plenum.

    • Ethylene oxidizing microorganisms which are capable of reducing the ethylene content in an ethylene-containing gas to levels below 0.1 ppm and which have an ethylene removal efficiency which exceeds 90 % even at temperatures around 10 DEG C. The microorganisms show a high degree of operational stability when used in a bioreactor for extended periods of time in the presence of ethylene and they can, when mixed with a carrier material, be stored for several weeks in the absence of ethylene without significant loss of their ethylene removal capacity. A bioreactor comprising the microorganism is used for controlling the ethylene content in storage facilities for agricultural or horticultural products.

    • A transportable and size-adjustable ripening apparatus (10) for controlled ripening of produce includes a chamber (C) having a floor (12) and walls (18). The chamber (C) is configured to receive a row of palletized loads (24) that defines an interstitial volume with one of the walls (18) to create a low pressure plenum (L). The ripening apparatus (10) also includes air low flow control units (32a and 32b) for transferring air between a high pressure plenum (H) and the low pressure plenum (L), and which control the temperature of the transferred air. The plena (L, H) are generally enclosed to inhibit airflow therebetween except for airflow through the air flow control units (32a and 32b). The air flow control unit (32b) controls flow of air through a refrigeration unit (RU) while air flow control unit (32a) circulates air without refrigeration.
