    • A procedure for preventing hydrocarbon emissions when liquid hydrocarbons with high vapour pressure are stored in rock cisterns (11). From the surface layer of the liquid in the cistern (11) a liquid flow is pumped to the heat exchanger (15), where it is heated, and conducted back into the gas space (17) of the cistern (11).

    • The invention relates to a method of converting hydrocarbons. According to the method, a gaseous or liquid hydrocarbon feed is passed into a circulating fluidized-bed reactor, wherein the feed is converted at a high temperature under the influence of particulate matter kept in a fluidized state, and the converted hydrocarbon products are removed from the reactor in a gaseous phase. The reaction space comprises an intershell riser space (13; 50) formed between two concentrically located cylindrical and/or conical envelope surfaces. The separation of particulate matter from the gas-phase reaction products is performed by means of a multiport cyclone equipped with louvered vanes (14; 63).

    • The invention concerns a process for separating 2-butyl-2-ethyl-1,3-propanediol from a reaction blend, which has an organic phase containing BEPD, and an aqueous phase, and which has been produced by allowing 2-ethylhexanal and formaldehyde to react in a reactor in the presence of a hydroxide compound, whereby the hydroxide compound has been fed into the reactor principally during the whole time of reaction. A characterizing feature of the invention comprises allowing the reaction blend to phase into an organic phase and an aqueous phase and removing the aqueous phase immediately from the reactor, i.e. within ca. 0.1 minute to 2 hours from the completion of the input of the hydroxide compound. The organic phase is washed with an aqueous solution to remove impurities and BEPD is recovered by submitting the water washed organic phase to distillation. By the invention the number of process steps is reduced, and the raw material costs decrease, because the usual addition of sulphuric acid is not needed.
