    • The invention relates to a method of converting hydrocarbons. According to the method, a gaseous or liquid hydrocarbon feed is passed into a circulating fluidized-bed reactor, wherein the feed is converted at a high temperature under the influence of particulate matter kept in a fluidized state, and the converted hydrocarbon products are removed from the reactor in a gaseous phase. According to the invention, a circulating fluidized-bed reactor (1-3; 41-43) is used having an axially annular cross section and being equipped with a multiport cyclone (14, 17; 52, 63) for the separation of the particulate matter from the gas-phase reaction products. The reaction space comprises an intershell riser space (13; 50) formed between two concentrically located cylindrical and/or conical envelope surfaces. The separation of particulate matter from the gas-phase reaction products is performed by means of a multiport cyclone equipped with louvered vanes (14; 63).

    • A process and apparatus for catalytically converting hydrocarbons to light olefins with a short contact circulating fluidized bed reactor system. The process comprises the steps of feeding a hydrocarbon feedstock into a reaction zone (1) containing a solid catalyst, contacting the hydrocarbon feedstock in the reaction zone (1) with the catalyst under conditions which favour catalytic conversion of hydrocarbons into light olefins, separating the reaction products obtained from the reaction zone (1) after catalytic conversion, recovering the catalyst, and regenerating the deactivated catalyst in a regenerator (3). According to the invention, the hydrocarbon feedstock is contacted with the catalyst in a circulating fluidized bed reactor (1) at a residence time in the range of 0.1 to 3 seconds. The process is used for preparing propylene, butylenes and pentenes and high octane, low benzene gasoline fraction by catalytic conversion of LGO, HGO, VGO or naphta, using conventional or improved FCC catalysts. The process can also be used for preparing propylene, isobutylene or isoamylene rich products by catalytic dehydrogenation from propane, isobutane or naphta, respectively, using conventional or improved dehydrogenation catalysts for fluidized bed service.

    • The invention relates to an apparatus suited for carrying out physical and chemical processes comprised of two separate unit processes using a particulate matter medium, wherein the second unit process serves for regeneration of the particulate matter contaminated in the first unit process. The apparatus comprises a first reactor (1-3) for carrying out the first unit reaction; a second reactor (4-6) for carrying out the second unit reaction; adapted between the first reactor (1-3) and the second reactor (4-6), a first transfer channel (20) serving for the transfer of contaminated particulate matter from the first reactor to the second; and adapted between the second reactor (4-6) and the first reactor (1-3), a second transfer channel (29) serving for the transfer of regenerated particulate matter from the second reactor to the first. According to the invention, the first reactor (1-3) comprises a circulating fluidized-bed reactor with a reaction space of an axially annular cross section, and the second reactor (4-6) comprises a circulating fluidized-bed reactor surrounding the first reactor in a symmetrically concentric fashion, whereby also the second reactor has a reaction space of an axially annular cross section. The construction according to the invention makes it possible to implement also large equipment with a small height-to-diameter ratio, whereby the footprint/space requirements of the equipment are minimized and problems associated with thermal expansion are reduced essentially.

    • In the preparation of alkenyl succinic anhydride (ASA) from an olefinically unsaturated hydrocarbon and a maleic anhydride, additives are used in the preparation reaction in order to improve the yield of the product and to reduce side reactions. According to the present invention, quinone and hydroquinone derivatives as well as dialkyl sulfoxides and transition-metal acetylacetonate have such properties. The amounts to be added are approx. 0.01-2 mol % of the amount of maleic anhydride. The olefin is preferably a straight-chain alpha -olefin or a straight-chain or branched internal olefin having a chain length of 6-20 carbon atoms. The olefin may also be a polyolefin, in which case the preferred molecular weight is 900-1500. The preparation process may be of the batch type or the semi-batch type, and the maleic anhydride and the additive may be added in several batches or as a continuous feed which may be even or variable. The ASA obtained by the process may be used in particular as an additive in foods, for hydroxy sizing of paper, or as a dispersing agent in lubricants.

    • The application relates to a process for the oligomerization of olefins, preferably a hydrocarbon blend which contains 1-butenes and/or 2-butenes, for example the so-called Raffinate II stream and cyclic aromatic or alicyclic hydrocarbons, by means of BF3 and a cocatalyst. The oligomer prepared by the process may be used as a solvent or an additive in fuels or lubricants, in surfactants, in white and cosmetic oils requiring extra purity, and in PVC and polyolefin plastics. In polyester and vinyl ester resins this oligomer can be used for replacing in part the monomer (e.g. styrene), thus reducing monomer evaporation and to inhibit shrinkage at the hardening stage, and it also improves the optical properties of the said resins.
