    • A blast resistant window blind system includes a blind system comprising a plurality of parallel blind slats, a plurality of spaced pane engaging members, and first and second mounting bodies coupled to the pane engaging members and anchor members disposed at first and second opposite ends of said opening, wherein the pane engaging members are secured to the mounting bodies and coupled thereby to the structure.     • A transparent assembly locatable in a building surface having a rebate is described. The assembly has a transparent panel and one or more high tensile strength flexible material reinforcement pieces extending laterally from the panel to provide non-rigid attachment of the assembly to a subframe and/or wall, wherein the attachment allows movement of the assembly within the rebate. By direct but non-rigid attachment of the transparent assembly, generally a window, to the subframe and/or wall, any weakness in the impact-resistance of the assembly because of weakness and/or damage to the frame is avoided. The non-rigid nature of the attachment allows it to absorb much of the blast loading. This allows a larger load on the transparent assembly to be supported by the subframe and/or wall. The present invention also provides a number of ballistic-resistant and blast-resistant assemblies providing protection against much higher levels of protection from high velocity weapons and explosives.

    • An apparatus and method for protecting an occupant of a building from flying debris from a frangible structure (W) of the building (B), such as a window, in the event of an explosion or other blast outside the building. A protective barrier (14) is positioned adjacent the building structure and is constructed to be deployed by inflating at least a portion thereof. The protective barrier is movable from a stored position in a housing (10) adjacent the building structure to a deployed position in which the barrier covers the building structure. A gas generating device (16) is connected to the protective barrier and is operable to generate gas to inflate the protective barrier and move it to the deployed position in response to a signal indicating an explosion or other blast outside the building.

    • Apparatus for protecting an occupant of a building from flying debris from a frangible structure such as a window or the like, in the event of an explosion or other blast. The apparatus comprises a protective louver system disposed adjacent the building structure. The louver system comprises a plurality of louvers that are movable from an open position to a closed position wherein they form a protective barrier covering the building structure. A louver closing device is operatively connected to the louvers and is operable to move them to the closed position in the event of an explosion or other blast. The louvers are provided with locking portions so that they are interlocked when in the closed position and displaced inwardly by an explosion or other blast. Reinforcing cables may be positioned adjacent the inner surface of the louver system to support the louvers in the closed position when they are displaced inwardly by the explosion or other blast.
