    • A process for producing a magnet which not only is inexpensive but also exhibits high coercive force, squareness ratio and maximum energy product by utilizing the single-roll process. The magnet comprises R (at least one rare earth element with Sm being an essential component), T (Fe or Fe and Co), and N and M (one or more members selected among Ti, V, Cr, Nb, Hf, Ta, Mo, W, Al, C and P, with Zr being an essential component) with the atomic percentages of R, N and M being 4 to 8, 10 to 20, and 2 to 10, respectively, and contains a hard magnetic phase (TbCu7-type crystal phase) and soft magnetic phase (which is made of T phase of bcc structure, has a mean grain diameter of 5 to 60 nm, and accounts for 10 to 60 % by volume of the whole), with the proviso that the atomic ratio (R+M)/(R+T+M) of the hard magnetic phase exceeds 12.5 %. In the single roll process, the peripheral velocity of the cooling roll is kept at 50 m/s or above and the ejection pressure of the molten alloy is kept at 0.3 to 2 kgf/cm . The obtained alloy is quenched and further subjected to thermal treatment at 600 to 800 DEG C and nitriding.

    • A novel switching power unit adopting a digital control system. The switching power unit is provided with a switch circuit (40) which switches input power, an output circuit (50) which outputs a switching output after converting the output into a direct current, and a digital control section (70). The section (70) receives an analog output voltage signal (AS1) and an analog output current signal (AS2) and converts the signals (AS1 and AS2) into digital signals. The section (70) also calculates a command value which decides at least one of the switching frequencies, turning-on time, and turning-off time of a main switch (42) based on the two digital signals and controls the switching operations of the switch (42) based on the calculated command value. Moreover, the section (70) estimates input power supply voltage information or load terminal voltage information from the digitized signals of signals (AS1 and AS2).
