    • A remote site downloading system is disclosed in which a local computer (151) establishes a session with a content server (154), and a content file and geographic destination drive are selected. The local computer is typically on a first access network (152) and the user wishes to have the file downloaded to a geographic drive, i.e., a remote site computer whose location and other properties are mapped in a mapping file on the local computer. The geographic drive is usually on a different access network in a dynamic location such as a hotspot or a fixed location such as broadband cable or DSL. The local computer is specially programmed to allow selection of the geographic target drive, pack information comprising cookies and a URL, and sends it to the remote geographic drive computer, where it may act as a proxy to cause downloading from the content server to the geographic drive on the remote site computer.

    • Interworking of a wireless telephony network (12) with a wireless Local Area Network (10) serving at least one mobile terminal user (14) is accomplished by reserving a General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) communications channel (20) of the wireless telephony network. Control communications signals received in the WLAN (10) from the mobile terminal user are communicated across the GPRS channel (20) to the wireless telephone network (12) and likewise, control communications signals from the wireless telephony network pass to the WLAN over the channel. Using the GPRS channel to carry control communications signals between the WLAN (10) and the WLAN (12) affords the advantage of a loose coupling without the risk of sending sensitive control information over a non-secure link.

    • A method for Authentication Authorization and Accounting (AAA) in an interworking between first and second networks that do not belong in the same administrative domain, using certificate based transactions. In the method according to the invention, the second network sends a public key to the first network, and a certificate to a mobile device. The certificate includes information regarding the subscription level of the mobile device and is signed with a private key of the second network. Upon detection of the first network the mobile device transmits the certificate and the first network authenticates the certificate using the public and private keys of the second network, and authorizes access to the network in response. The first network then sends a session key encrypted with a public key of the mobile device. The mobile device decrypts the session key with a private key and access the first network using the session key. In this manner, interworking is implemented without requiring the deployment of a special interworking function to bridge between the two different types of networks.
