    • A communication system is adapted to accommodate changes to bandwidth demand through the use of communiucation interface modules, such as radio modules (121-124), are coupled to a communication signal processor, such as a multi-port modem (110), in order to serve an initial bandwidth demand. Thereafter, additional communication signal processors may be added, being coupled to one or more of the communication interface modules (121-124) decoupled from the initially deployed communication signal processor (110), to serve an increased bandwidth demand. Preferably, an expansion chassis architecture is used to accomodatea number of communication signal processors atleast equivalent to the number of communication information interfaces of the plurality. In preferred embodiments, the communication interface modules operate upon different channels, such as radio frequency channels, although coupling to the communication signal processor upon a same channel, sucha as a common intermediate frequency channel.

    • In order to enable both POTS and high speed data communications via a plurality of subscriber loops connected to central office by way of a junction unit and a feeder cable, a bank of POTS splitters and a high speed data interface are located adjacent the junction unit and conductors of the subscriber loops are connected to the bank of POTS splitters. Preferably, the connector blocks in the JWI are duplicated in the box containing the POTS splitters. The usual jumper conductors in the JWI are removed and the connector blocks in the JWI connected to the connector blocks in the POTS splitter box by bridging conductors. With this arrangement, it is possible to remake the connections to the subscriber loops one at a time, thus reducing disruption to service.
