摘要： A remote control transmission unit (RCT) in accordance with the invention comprises a receiver (RER), a decision circuit (DC), and a transmitter (TR). The receiver (RER) receives input remote control commands (IRC) transmitted by a user-operable remote control unit (RCU). The transmitter (TR) transmits output remote control commands (ORC). The decision circuit (DC) determines whether the input remote control commands (IRC) belong to a predetermined group. The transmitter (TR) selectively re-transmits the input remote control commands (IRC) as output remote control commands (ORC) to a controllable apparatus (APP1) in dependence on whether the input remote control commands (IRC) belong to said predetermined group or not. Such a remote control transmission unit (RCT) is advantageously used in a system with a first controllable apparatus (APP1) with a certain function (for example, teletext) and a second controllable apparatus (APP2) which supplies an enhanced version of the certain function. The remote control transmission unit (RCT) is arranged in such a way that, on the one hand, a remote control receiver (RE1) of the first controllable apparatus (APP1) is able to receive the re-transmitted remote control commands (ORC), while, on the other hand, the input remote control commands (IRC) transmitted by the remote control unit (RCU) are shielded. The second controllable apparatus (APP2) receives all the input remote control commands (IRC).

摘要： A television receiver for receiving data such as teletext multiplexed with the television signal includes a data acquisition circuit (6) for acquiring at least selected pages of the data signal and a memory (13) for storing a plurality of pages. A non-volatile memory (11) holds a list of favourite pages of the user for each of a plurality of channels and a microprocessor (7) causes the receiver to tune to each channel in turn to acquire and store in the memory (13) the favourite pages for all of the channels. The microprocessor (7) will cause the receiver to tune to each of the channels in turn on switch on and acquire the favourite pages for that channel. The receiver is tuned to each channel in turn for a period long enough to acquire the favourite pages either by allowing a set time or by monitoring the receipt of the favourite pages. Alternatively a second tuner is used to scan the non-viewed channel.

摘要： When updating or supplying new television channels, in particular satellite channels for a plurality of television receivers (4), the individual television receivers communicate via a communications channel (24) with a database (18) in which the status of the transmitting specifications of the individual television channels and the establishment of new channels are currently monitored. The transmitting specifications are transferred via the communications channel (24) together with a teletext page which is specific for the individual channel, and which has already been given a code word that initiates transfers of transmitting specifications. The transmitting specifications are stored in the individual receiver (4) in a user part (21) and a machine part (22) which cooperate such that when a user tunes a programme, the user part (21) will be updated via the teletext page if changes have taken place in the transmitting specifications since the last tuning of the programme, which may e.g. be changes in frequency, satellite position, polarity, etc. Further, it is possible to upgrade the software of the individual receiver. This provides an unprecedented user friendliness that enables any user to find a channel, no matter whether the channel has changed transmitting specifications, or a totally new channel has been supplied. Also, the user will always have the software of his receiver updated, without having to send the entire receiver to the supplier.

The headend uses ID tag with channel and time of request information to identify the location of the information to be downloaded to the user. Preferably, the information is pre-cached from the ISP to a headend cache (31) in advance of the broadcast to facilitate quicker downloading of the information to the user.

The decoders erroneously respond to conventional full-channel teletext transmissions in which all lines of the television signal are used for teletext. The method in accordance with the invention transmits teletext pages in the vertical blanking interval (10) of the television signal in a conventional manner. Additionally, pages are also transmitted in the active video interval (20). A supplemental page header (22-24) in each active video interval is provided to prevent teletext rows in the vertical blanking interval from being interpreted as rows of a page which is transmitted in the active video interval.

摘要： An interactive television system comprises television transmission apparatus (TTA), a transmission path (TPA) and a plurality of television receivers (TRA-1 to TRA-n). The system is arranged to enable interactive games to be played where viewers compete with contestants in a television studio.
