    • Fender device which is mounted on the side of a quay in a harbor or in shipyard and which is used to protect the quay and the hull of a ship approaching the quay from damage caused by the impact of the ship against the quay. More particularly, the fender device has a wear reduction unit for the effective prevention of accidents which would cause wear and scratching damage of the hull or buffer surface, and the separation and damage of paint due to the strong frictional action of projections such as rust on the surface, adhered matter such as shells, rivets, or welding seams, when the ship is docked for a long period of time. This device is made of an elastic rubber material, and has a rubber fender (1) secured at one side to the quay, with a rigid buffer unit (2) mounted on the other side of the fender. The buffer unit (2) further includes a rigid base member (2a), and a plurality of friction resistant pads (3) mounted on the surface of the member (2a). The pads (3) are each perforated through the centers with holes (5) and a nozzle (4) for a sprinkler hose is inserted into each hole (5) to force water from the nozzle (4), thereby forming a film of water on the surfaces of the pads (3) and on the surface of the hull so as to reduce the frictional coefficient between them. The pads (3) are radially formed with grooves (9) around the hole (5) as a center on the surface, thereby enabling the uniform spreading of the water over the entire surface.
