    • A pipeline pig (10) that can traverse dual- or multiple-diameter pipes or pipelines has collapsible and expandable sealing elements (20) that support the pig, provide a sliding (dynamic) seal with the pipe wall, and maintain the necessary pressure for driving or cleaning as the elements collapse and expand. The sealing elements (20) each have an internal cavity (21) sized to house a first volume of a fluid and a reservoir (20) sized to house a second volume of the fluid. The cavity (21) and reservoir (29) are arranged so that a portion of the volumes of the fluid can move between each. An accumulator (30) maintains a pressure of the first and second volumes of the fluid so that regardless of the sealing element's current size, or whether the element (20) is transitioning between sizes, the element (20) can maintain a sliding seal engagement with the pipe wall (W) and perform the primary function of driving or cleaning (or both).

    • Pigs (10) are propelled forwards by a propulsion fluid in a pipeline (21). The pigs (10) have an upstream end (13), a downstream end (11), and an intermediate section (12). The intermediate section has a variable geometry chamber (16) associated therewith and one or more outwardly extending external pawl teeth (15). The pawl teeth are automatically displaceable outwardly relative to a longitudinal axis (9) in response to a pressure differential between a downstream pressure and an upstream pressure. The pig is configured such that a change in a geometry of the chamber in response to the pressure differential between the downstream pressure and the upstream pressure causes the one or more pawl teeth to automatically displace outwardly when the upstream pressure is less than the downstream pressure. When the pawl teeth are deployed, upstream displacement of the pig is inhibited. Various related systems (5) and methods are also disclosed.

    • An in-line pipe inspection tool has one or more inspection platforms which are connected to an elongate wheeled trolley by link arms (20 to 26). The trolley unit has drive means for driving the point of connection of the first link arm to the trolley relative to the point of connection of the second link arm to the trolley, thereby to move the inspection platforms in a direction perpendicular to the direction of elongation of the trolley. Thus the inspection platforms are movable which is relative to the trolley to permit the tool to be adapted to pipelines of different diameters. Moreover, the platforms (28) preferably have permanent magnets (206) which contain a rotatable magnet (214). The rotatable magnet (214) permits the net magnetic field generated by the platform (28) to be varied.
