    • A key message can include a key-encryption-key (KEK) associated with a KeyDomainID and a KeyGroupID. A session description message can describe streaming media initialization parameters containing media stream information for one or more media streams. For each media stream, the media stream information can include an IP address and a data port. The session description message can further contain a linkage for binding the KEK to a corresponding one of the media streams. The linkage can include the KeyDomainID and KeyGroupID or can include an abstract representation of the KeyDomainID and KeyGroupID. During session initialization, the key-encryption-key (KEK) can be bound to the media streams using the linkage of the session description message. Each of the media streams can be secured using a traffic key conveyed to user equipment (UE) under protection of the key-encryption-key (KEK).

    • Disclosed are: an inter-layer optimization method in which data about the many dynamic changes in a wireless environment is shared and cross-layer optimization is implemented; and an abstraction layer component for the same. In a multimedia transmission layer operating method in which optimization of a first layer and a second layer is implemented by using service data provided from the first layer which contains a transmission layer and a network layer, and the second layer which is below a decoding layer, the operating method comprises: an upward abstraction step in which the service data provided to the second layer is processed and provided as a multimedia transmission layer; and a downward abstraction step in which instruction data provided from the multimedia transmission layer is processed and provided as the second layer. Consequently, there is the advantage that all layers share diverse data about the many dynamic changes in the wireless environment, and the data can be controlled to allow transmission in which service quality is ensured more effectively.

    • A mobile device is provisionable for service on a wireless wide area network (WWAN) operated by a licensed network operator and is further operable on at least one shorter-range, unlicensed wireless network (UWN). The mobile device stores (701) applications that generate data when executed, including at least one application that generates data for communication over the WWAN. The mobile device executes (703) a stored application and classifies (707) data generated by the executed application into one of at least two categories based upon a domain of a target network to which the data is to be sent. A first category relates to data requiring communication at least partially over the WWAN and a second category relates to data not requiring communication over the WWAN. The mobile device establishes communication (709, 713) with a target device in the target network over at least the UWN based upon classification of the data generated by the executed application.

    • Embodiments of the invention provide for a wireless computing device that comprises a set of one or more radio components to transmit and receive wireless communications on the device. Additionally, the wireless computing device includes processing and memory resources that individually or in combination provide multiple wireless applications, a radio object, and an arbitration component. The multiple wireless applications are each capable of generating a user-interface for enabling user-input in connection with wireless activities performed with that wireless application. The radio object interfaces the multiple applications with the set of one or more radio components. The arbitration component is configured to arbitrate at least one of (i) requests made by each of the wireless applications to the radio object for access to one or more of the radio components in the set, or (ii) responses from the radio object to requests made by each of the wireless applications.
