    • Disclosed are methods of transmitting and receiving a media information file for HTTP stream. Content is divided into a plurality of segments; the plurality of segments are divided into a plurality of segment sub groups, each grouping plural segments; a meta media information file including information on a segment sub group is configured; and a sub media information file including information on a plurality of segments in a segment sub group is configured. When service initializes, the metal media information file is transmitted. When a transmission request for content is received, the sub media information file to which a playback request timing for content belongs is selected and transmitted by referring to the meta media information file, and then, a segment in a segment sub group corresponding to the sub media information file is transmitted. Thus, during HTTP streaming, initial transmission delay is reduced, and random access and trick mode playback are possible.

In a multimedia transmission layer operating method in which optimization of a first layer and a second layer is implemented by using service data provided from the first layer which contains a transmission layer and a network layer, and the second layer which is below a decoding layer, the operating method comprises: an upward abstraction step in which the service data provided to the second layer is processed and provided as a multimedia transmission layer; and a downward abstraction step in which instruction data provided from the multimedia transmission layer is processed and provided as the second layer. Consequently, there is the advantage that all layers share diverse data about the many dynamic changes in the wireless environment, and the data can be controlled to allow transmission in which service quality is ensured more effectively.

    • Disclosed is a processing method which enables natural reproduction upon the occurrence of expression=switching during the transmission of an HTTP stream. The method comprises the following steps: constructing, for a first expression and from base layers of scalable video coding, a plurality of segments; constructing, for a second expression which has a higher quality than the first expression and from enhanced layers of scalable video coding, a plurality of segments; and transmitting at least a portion of the plurality of segments for the first expression in the event of transmitting the first expression, and transmitting at least a portion of the plurality of segments for the second expression together with at least a portion of the plurality of segments for the first expression in the event of transmitting the second expression. According to the present invention, only base layers may be extracted from the second expression and used as a reference in decoding low bit-rate segments to be reproduced in the future, thus providing multimedia content that is seamlessly displayed upon the occurrence of expression-switching.

    • Disclosed is an adaptive intra-prediction encoding and decoding method. The adaptive intra-prediction encoding method comprises the following steps: providing a prediction unit to be encoded; determining the total number of prediction modes for intra-prediction in accordance with the size of the prediction unit; selecting a certain prediction mode on the basis of the displacement of a reference pixel among the determined total number of the prediction modes, and performing intra-prediction using the selected prediction mode; and transforming and quantizing the residual value, which is the difference between the prediction unit predicted by the intra-prediction and the current prediction unit, and entropy-encoding the transformed and quantized value. Thus, rate-distortion may be optimized and image quality and encoding speed may be improved.
