    • A system (700) manages the operations of an integrated communications provider. One aspect of the system is a work flow engine. The work flow engine decomposes the service model into sub-model components based upon whether crossing of plural networks is appropriate to provide requested telecommunication services and which service providers are available to provide service consistent with the location of the customer. The work flow engine also creates a telecommunications design (713) from the sub-model components based on order rules of the service providers. The system automatically retrieves customer service records (703) and preparing sales proposals based on those records. The system includes a gateway to incumbent local exchange carriers and trading partner (715) service providers. The system incorporates features that automate comparisons between existing services and proposed services, optimizing on-net and off-net services, creation of cutover reports, issuance of service requests to local exchange carriers and trading partners (715), and alarming of failures of confirmations.

    • An automated order processing system (100) for a telecommunications services carrier is capable of activating customer orders and provisioning telecommunications services for customers. The system (100) includes a client application (110) including a graphical user interface for receiving one or more customer orders from a remote location, each customer order having at least one unique identifier, the client application (110) further up-front validating the format of the customer orders received. A server application (130) is provided for entering the validated customer orders in a database storage device (175, 180), prior to initiating customer order activation and provisioning. In addition to controlling the order entry, activation, provisioning and installation processes, the server application (130) tracks the status of each customer order by receiving status information updates for each customer order throughout the entry, activation, provisioning and installation process, and accordingly updates the database storage device (175, 180). The system (100) additionally provides a report generating function providing customers with up to date information about their accounts via the client application's graphical user interface (110).

    • A method and system for changing the extent of data plane resources controlled by a control plane for a network connection which spans a contiguous set of nodes controlled by existing network control resources is disclosed. This is done in a non-disruptive manner. This typically involves two steps: i) Creating a new set of control plane resources for said network connection such that said data plane resources are shared with said existing network control resources; and ii) then terminating the existing network control resources such that said data plane resources are fully transferred to the new set of control plane resources without disrupting said network connection. The existing network control resources can be either a control plane resource or a non control plane resource. An example of a non control plane resource is network management software (e.g., an OSS (Operation Support System)), which forms part of the Management Plane. It should be noted that this does not need to be done for a complete end-to-end connection, but rather can be executed for the portion of the end-to-end connection which is to be controlled by the control plane.

    • A method is disclosed for replacing an existing ITNC (1) by a new ITNC (3). This method requires no new point-code for the new ITNC (3), and is less complex than existing procedures for replacing an ITNC. A step of this method is to configure the new ITNC (3) off -line while it is no part of the telecommunication network. The new ITNC (3) can be configured the same or almost the same as the ITNC (1) to be replaced. ITNC (3) can have a corresponding point-code and an administrative name that are the same as ITNC (1). Another step of the method is to reduce the amount of traffic routed to and from the old ITNC (1) until zero. This can be done without any significant changes in the telecommunication- and administrative systems of other operators. After this, the new ITNC (3) can be installed in the telecommunication network. During the installation all the traffic is routed by one or more other ITNC’s contained by the domain (8) of the operator that replaces ITNC (1). When the installation of the ITNC (3) has finished, ITNC (3) can be brought in operation. Because the ITNC (3) has the same corresponding point-code and the same administrative name as ITNC (1) had before, there can be no difference between the old and the new situation.

The inventive system also provides, through a modifiable policy defined by the system administrator, service-level control of the packet flow both within the service integration system and between the service integration system and the communications network. The inventive system also provides visibility into the signaling process to services deployed on it, offering direct communication with different protocols such as IP, SS7 etc., by means of network adaptation components.

    • The invention relates to a method of interconnecting sites for the exchange of data, each site comprising a catalogue of data. The inventive method comprises the following steps: a step involving the connection (1) of at lest one site to a management system which comprises at least one data structure with data for each of the sites; a first search step (2) which makes use of an inquiry carried out by said at least one site in relation to said at least one data structure stored in the management system; and a request step (4). The invention is characterised in that at each pre-determined time interval, the connected sites communicate their connection status and access point to the management system. Moreover, said inventive method is characterised in that it comprises a second search step (3), between the first search step and the request step, in which a communication is established between different sites for the exchange of data.
