    • An improved method of recording information on an optical recording medium. A method of recording information on an optical recording medium which records information by applying a laser beam onto the recording layer 14 of an optical recording medium 1, and which records information by setting in a preliminary erased condition an information recording area out of the recording layer 14 and then applying a recording laser beam to the recording area. This method can significantly enhance an erasing performance when data is overwritten to enable a good jitter. To set a preliminary erase condition, an erasing laser beam having a power the same as the erase power of a recording laser beam only need be applied prior to the recording laser beam.
