    • Gegenstand der Erfindung ist ein HF-Antennensystem zum Anregen und/oder Erfassen der Magnetresonanz in einem zu untersuchenden Objekt, das einem magnetischen Hauptfeld ausgesetzt ist, welches die Spins des Objektes in einer gewünschten Longitudinalrichtung (z) ausrichtet, mit mindestens einem ersten Antennengebilde (1), enthaltend mehrere Leitungsabschnitte (11, 12, 13, 14), die jeweils zum Leiten hochfrequenten Wechselstroms ausgelegt sind und die sich von einem gemeinsamen Scheitelbereich krallenförmig auseinanderstrebend bis zu einem Basisbereich erstrecken, um einen das interessierende Volumen enthaltenden Teil des Untersuchungsobjektes helmartig zu umgreifen. Die Erfindung ist dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass jeder Leitungsabschnitt (11, 12, 13, 14) als HF-Leitung (HL) ausgebildet ist zum Führen einer sich im TEM-Modus oder in einem Quasi-TEM-Modus ausbreitenden Leitungswelle in elektromagnetischer Kopplung mit Spins des zu umgreifenden Untersuchungsobjektes, und dass die elektrische Länge und die Terminierungen der HF-Leitungen (HL) so gewählt sind, dass sich bei der Frequenz der Magnetresonanz stehende Wellen in den HF-Leitungen erge­ben.

In comparison with known RF coil systems of the same length, a substantially larger field of view as well as a constant variation and a steeper drop of the field characteristic are thus achieved at the edges of the RF coil system while the construction remains comparatively simple and economical nevertheless.

    • This invention includes means for generating MR images by a moveable RF coil which can be moved across a patient during an MR examination. The MR apparatus includes a position detection system which detects the current position and orientation of the moveable RF coil. The coil can be hand held for manual movement or can be attached to mechanical manipulators for controlled movement. The imaging methods determine and generate magnetic gradient and RF pulse sequences to excite nuclear magnetization in a 3D region determined with respect to the current 3D position and 3D orientation of the moveable RF coil. The invention also includes moveable RF coils for receiving and transmitting which are configured and sized for convenient manipulation by an operator. A preferable moveable RF coil assembly includes markers necessary to interact with a particular position detection system, display means for displaying reconstructed images in real-time, and control means for operator entry of signals controlling the MR apparatus.
