    • A process for controlling burnoff of hydrogen in a LOCA, includes opening a valve to allow a first primary containment gas to flow. Educing a second secondary containment gas through a flame arrester. Combusting the first and second containment gases within an isolated deflagration zone. Cooling the combusted first and second containment gases with a thermoelectric element and exhausting the cooled non-combustible oxidizer rich product gas mixture through a second flame arrester. A contained flare system for a water-cooled nuclear reactor includes an intake flame arrestor and an exhaust flame arrestor located in a housing to contain deflagration of a first primary containment gas and a second secondary containment gas within the housing.
