    • Techniques for processing audio signals include removing noise from the audio signals or otherwise clarifying the audio signals prior to outputting the audio signals. The disclosed techniques may employ minimum mean squared error (MMSE) analyses on audio signals received from a primary microphone and at least one reference microphone, and to techniques in which the MMSE analyses are used to reduce or eliminate noise from audio signals received by the primary microphone. Optionally, confidence intervals may be assigned to different frequency bands of an audio signal, with each confidence interval corresponding to a likelihood that its respective frequency band includes targeted audio, and each confidence interval representing a contribution of its respective frequency band in a reconstructed audio signal from which noise has been removed.

    • An autobias vehicular microphone system (300) includes a microphone (301) uses an amplifier (306) for amplifying an output of the microphone. A first feedback path (308) provides an amplifier output signal to the amplifier input for providing amplifier linearity and a second feedback path (305) is used for providing bias to an voltage reference (303). The voltage reference (303) operates to provide an autobias to the amplifier (306) based upon amplifier loading. Thus, a DC feedback loop works as an average voltage sensing circuit operating to center the amplifier (306) to an operating point near one half its supply voltage. By allowing the bias point to vary, a constant clip level can be maintained depending on varying load conditions of electronic devices (307, 309, 311) using the microphone (301).

    • A miniature microphone comprising a diaphragm compliantly suspended over an enclosed air volume having a vent port is provided, wherein an effective stiffness of the diaphragm with respect to displacement by acoustic vibrations is controlled principally by the enclosed air volume and the port. The microphone may be formed using silicon microfabrication techniques and has sensitivity to sound pressure substantially unrelated to the size of the diaphragm over a broad range of realistic sizes. The diaphragm is rotatively suspend for movement through an arc in response to acoustic vibrations, for example by beams or tabs, and has a surrounding perimeter slit separating the diaphragm from its support structure. The air volume behind the diaphragm provides a restoring spring force for the diaphragm. The microphone's sensitivity is related to the air volume, perimeter slit, and stiffness of the diaphragm and its mechanical supports, and not the area of the diaphragm.
