    • A medical device has a base having an internally tapered wall mounted to a neck of a tube holder that has a reverse taper, so that rotation of the base relative to the neck may be effected with a controlled drag to provide a smooth and secure relative rotation. The base may be rotated relative to the holder by rotationally moving a needle protection housing hingedly attached to the base. The housing may be rotated to any orientation relative to the tube holder so long as a torsional force greater than the predetermined friction between the tapered surfaces is applied thereto. The base is designed to have a ring at its base that biases against the base of the neck in a self-adjustable manner. Other devices may also be fitted with reverse tapered complementary connection fittings to securely couple to each other.

The first molding member includes a hub portion that has a proximal piercing tip and a distal portion. The hub portion defines a lumen that passes therethrough. The second molding member includes a central housing, a proximal skirt, and a distal skirt. The second molding portion is molded at least partially about the first molding portion to form a monolithic structure.     • A method is disclosed for preparing at least one compound having biological properties from blood. The method is carried out inside closed tubes under subatmospheric pressure, so as to reduce or prevent bacterial contamination of the compound caused by handling same. The method includes, inter alia, the repetition of the following steps any desired number of times: connecting a second vacuum container to a blood sampling device in turn connected to a first container that contains blood separated into fractions; waiting until the desired fraction(s) have been transferred, and withdrawing the second container. Various second containers containing different compounds for different medical uses may be obtained, including for biological therapies. The steps can be carried out in a closed system, without opening the containers, or the first container may be opened before the blood sampling device is introduced.

    • The invention concerns a surgical apparatus for irrigating an operative site during endoscopic surgery. The apparatus comprises a reservoir of irrigation fluid (32) contained within an air actuated pouch (30), a pump (54) for inflating the pouch so that the reservoir is compressed, pressure control means (20), a microprocessor (53) for operating the system, heating panels (40) contained within the pouch for providing heated irrigation fluid, and a nozzle and tube (52) for delivering the irrigation fluid to an operative site. The apparatus also provides a stick fitting (100) for attaching tubing to the fluid reservoir. In addition to the stick fitting, the apparatus provides a locking receiver system for ensuring that the stick fitting will not disengage during use.
