摘要： A process for treating a light cracked naphtha to be used as an etherification feed stock is disclosed in which mercaptans, hydrogen sulfide and diolefins are removed simultaneously in a distillation column reactor (10) using a reduced nickel catalyst. The mercaptans and hydrogen sulfide are reacted with the diolefins to form sulfides which are higher boiling than that portion of the naphtha which is used as feed to the etherification unit. The higher boiling sulfides are removed as bottoms (8) along with any C6 and heavier materials. Any diolefins not converted to sulfides are selectively hydrogenated to mono-olefins for use in the etherification process.

摘要： A contact structure, useful as a distillation structure, has a rigid frame made of two substantially vertical duplicate grids (22) spaced apart and held rigid by a plurality of substantially horizontal rigid members (20) and a plurality of substantially horizontal wire mesh tubes (10) mounted to the grids to form a plurality of fluid pathways among the tubes. For use as a catalytic distillation structure, which serves as both the distillation structure and the catalyst, at least a portion of the wire mesh tubes contain a particulate catalytic material (30). The catalyst within the tubes provides a reaction zone where catalytic reactions may occur and the wire mesh provides mass transfer surfaces to effect a fractional distillation. The spacing elements provide for a variation of the catalyst density and loading and structural integrity.

摘要： The present invention is a method for removing nitrile contaminants from C5 streams. In particular, a C5 stream (10) is washed in a countercurrent fashion with a mixture comprising 50 % methanol and 50 % water (18) to extract the nitriles from the C5 hydrocarbons into the water-methanol mixture (16). Propionitrile removal is enhanced by the presence of the methanol in the solvent. Further embodiments include (1) a method for recovering methanol from the extract stream by hydrogenating the nitriles to form amines, converting the amines to ammonium salts by acid treatment, and distilling out the methanol; and (2) a method for distilling out methanol/nitriles from the extract stream, admixing the methanol/nitriles with an alkane/alkene ether stream, then distilling the methanol out in an azeotrope with the alkane/alkenes whilst leaving the nitriles in the ether.

摘要： A process is provided for selective etherification of iC>4 with EtOH to form ETBE in a distillation column reactor containing a fixed bed acid cation exchange resin as a catalytic distillation structure in a reaction distillation zone combined with a straight pass fixed bed reactor. A C4 feed containing isobutene is mixed with the total liquid downflow from the catalytic distillation reactor and passed to a straight pass fixed bed reactor, where up to about 85 % of the isobutene is reacted with ethanol in the distillation column reactor effluent. This stream is returned to the distillation column reactor at a point below where the liquid downflow is withdrawn and then fractionated on conventional trays to remove ETBE as a bottom product. The remainder of the feed from the straight pass fixed bed reactor is vaporized into the reaction distillation zone of the distillation column reactor, where the unreacted isobutene is reacted with down coming ethanol fed at the upper end of the reaction distillation zone. Any water in the ethanol feed is stripped out and carried out the distillation column reactor with the unreacted C4's.
