    • A glow plug (10) is proposed which serves to ignite a vaporized fuel/air mixture in internal combustion engines. This glow plug (10) surrounds with its annular metal casing (11) an electric heating pin, from the end of which projects a connection screw (14). An insulation jacket (25) is slid over this connection screw (14), thus filling the gap between the connection screw (14) and the metal casing (11). In the region of this insulation jacket (23) the convection screw (14) and/or the metal casing (11) are provided with annular projections or recesses (28) which protect the connection screw against tensile forces. The connection screw (14) is, however, also provided with at least one projector (31) or one recess (30) protecting it against torsion; in the longitudinal bore too, projections (29) or recesses can also be provided which resist torsion of the connecting screw (14). The head of the connecting screw, which possesses the projections (31) or recesses (28, 30) and may if necessary also carry the connection thread (19), is produced preferably as a separate component (14/2) and seccured to the connection screw (14).

    • A cylinder inner pressure detector for diesel engines, having a simple construction and a high operation efficiency and capable of saving a space and detecting the inner pressure of a cylinder with a high accuracy; and a method of using the same. A pressure sensor (2) is provided in a glow plug (3) with the sensor held between a ceramic heater portion (4) of the glow plug (3) and a fixing member (6) by which the ceramic heater portion (4) is fixed. Therefore, since the pressure sensor (2) directly detects the displacement of the ceramic heater portion (4), which is displaced by the inner pressure received of a cylinder, and thereby detects the inner pressure of the cylinder, the detecting accuracy can be improved greatly as compared with that of a conventional detector of this kind which is adapted to detect the elastic deformation of a cylinder head and thereby indirectly determine the inner pressure of a cylinder. Since the pressure sensor (2) is provided inside the glow plug (3), the space can be saved, and a lead wire is not exposed to the outside of the glow plug. This enables the operation efficiency to be improved, and the breaking of the wire to be prevented.
