    • Disclosed is a torque converter for an automatic transmission, mounted between an output shaft of an engine and an input shaft of the automatic transmission for transferring engine power to the automatic transmission. The torque converter comprises a rotary housing connected to the input shaft of the automatic transmission and formed with a gear room having a main gear room in which a main gear connected to the output shaft of the engine is mounted and at least one auxiliary gear room which is arranged at a side of the main gear room and in which at least one auxiliary gear meshing with the main gear is mounted, the rotary housing having first and second space portions arranged at upper and lower parts of the gear room, respectively, between the main gear room and the auxiliary gear room, the first and second space portions being communicated with each other through a fluid flowing passage; and fluid control means disposed in the fluid flowing passage of the rotary housing and having a fluid control valve and a control section for controlling operation of the fluid control valve.

    • A pump type hydraulic coupling for a vehicle uses a gear pump to connect an engine and a transmission. The pump type hydraulic coupling includes a pinion (2) that rotatably and coaxially connecting in the shell (1), a big rim (3) that engaging with the pinion (2), a crescent (4) set between the pinion (2) and the big rim (3), a one-way clutch (6) that secured at the connecting end of the pinion (2) and the shell (1). There are a high pressure oil chamber (7) and a low pressure oil chamber (8) in the shell. They are respectively connected with a high pressure oilway (13) and a low pressure oilway (12). The high pressure oilway (13) is connected with a control module (11). The control module (11) includes pressure valves, centrifugal valve, pressure maintaining valve and pressure setting up valve. During coasting, the pump type hydraulic coupling of this invention can ensure the brake function of the engine. While it works under the situation of low speed and high pressure, it has good stability and its pulsation is small.

    • A hydrostatic coupling comprises a housing (10) adapted for rotation about a central axis (14). The interior of the housing (10) includes a reservoir (22) for retaining hydraulic fluid, an enclosure (32) retaining a planetary gear pump (26, 36) and ports (38, 40) connecting the reservoir (22) to the pump enclosure (32). A valve assembly (42) is adapted to restrict the flow through output port (40). Torque transmission between sun gear (36) and housing (10) is a function of the flow restriction generated by valve assembly (42).
