In the method for requesting a bandwidth in a wireless access system, when a base station receives an uplink MAC PDU from a mobile station, if there is a polling request field in a generic MAC header, the base station allocates a bandwidth, which can transmit a BR header, to the mobile station. Then, the mobile station transmits a BR header to a region allocated from the base station so as to be allocated with a resource for transmitting data from the base station and to transmit data to the region.
