    • A method and apparatus for transparent inband signaling during a telephone conversation provides an advantageous way of enabling a party to a telephone conversation to signal a telecommunications system to perform desired functions. A person signaling a system with a generated inband signal, such as DTMF, can do so transparently, that is without the other party hearing the inband signals used. This innovation is based on detecting the inband signal (65A) muting the inband signal (65C) to prevent the other part from hearing it, and determining which party generated it while allowing the conversation to continue substantially uninterrupted. In an alternate method and apparatus, the inband signal is delayed (71A) for a short period of time in order to compensate for the time delay in reliably detecting DTMF signals and thus mute the inband signal more completely.

    • The invention relates to a circuit arrangement for transmitting signals in telecommunications networks. Said circuit arrangement has a first connection and a second connection for a first or a second lead of a transmission line. The first connection is connected to the first input and the second connection is connected to the second input of a rectifier. The positive output and the negative output of the rectifier are linked via an adjustable resistor. A third connection for a third lead of the transmission line is connected to the positive output of the rectifier via the series connection of a switch and a first diode. Said third connection is also connected to the negative output of the rectifier via the series connection of the switch and a second diode.

    • Interface circuits between PABX's or central office line circuits and telephone sets. The prior-art use of separate detectors for ringing signal detection, forward loop current detection, and reverse loop current detection, results in high costs when per line expense is multiplied by the number of lines used by a customer. The invention has one detector for detecting forward and reverse loop current, and the presence of a ringing signal. A sense circuit (22) is connected to a central office or PABX through an isolation transformer's winding (16) for detection of ringing or loop current direction in response to a control signal (VC) supplied from pulse recognition hardware (26). In one embodiment (Fig. 4), forward or reverse battery states may be detected when off-hook.
