    • A user connected to the Internet (102), over his or her telephone line (105), through an Internet Access Provider (IAP) (104) can place the Internet connection on hold to take an incoming telephone call from a calling party at a telephone set (110). The user is informed of the waiting call by means of a signal send by the Local Exchange Carrier (LEC) (103) to the IAP that indicates the presence of the waiting call and the identify of the calling party. This information is then transmitted by the IAP to the user's terminal (101). Upon an affirmative decision to take the call, indicated to the IAP by means of a "click" on the screen of the user's terminal, the call to the IAP is placed on hold and the incoming call is connected to the user's telephone set (111).

    • Un dispositif de commande telephonique actionne par des signaux de clignotement de crochet connectes a une ligne telephonique d'un abonne (2 et 2') permet a un usager de placer un appel existant en atteinte en actionnant selectivement le commutateur de crochet (3 et 3') de son telephone (1) selon une sequence particuliere. Le dispositif de commande comprend un comparateur (6) qui detecte la tension de la ligne et produit un signal de sortie, dont le niveau depend du fait que l'ecouteur telephonique se trouve en position raccrochee ou decrochee. Un rythmeur (16) et une logique de commande (18) sont interconnectes de maniere a etre declenches par le signal de sortie du comparateur. Si l'ecouteur telephonique se trouve dans une condition decrochee et si la sequence de signaux de clignotement a commutation par crochet est achevee dans un premier temps predetermine mesure par le rythmeur, un signal correspondant est genere par la logique de commande pour exciter un circuit d'occupation ou d'attente (22), de maniere a placer les circuits telephoniques en etat d'attente. Des moyens generateurs d'audio signaux (24 et 26) sont egalement excites de maniere a fournir a l'usager une tonalite indiquant que les circuits telephoniques se trouvent dans un etat d'attente. En consequence, l'usager peut remettre le combine sur le berceau du telephone sans couper la personne qui appelle. Un second rythmeur (20) est interconnecte a la logique de commande (18) pour remettre automatiquement les circuits telephoniques de l'usager a l'etat initial de maniere a recevoir de nouveaux appels, si l'usager devait placer par inadvertance ses circuits telephoniques dans des conditions d'occupation ou d'attente pendant une periode de temps plus longue qu'une seconde periode de temps predeterminee mesuree par le second rythmeur. Pour reprendre un appel telephonique en cours, l'usager n'a qu'a decrocher le combine du berceau de son telephone ou de tout autre poste supplementaire, ce qui a pour consequence de changer la tension de la ligne mettant

    • A cross-network scenario may occur during primary communications between a first and second caller, in which the second caller is connected to a network over a packet switched channel and receives a second call over a circuit switched channel resulting in an interruption of the primary communications between the original callers. A message indicating the original communication has been interrupted is received by a carrier. The carrier substitutes another communication device in place of the second caller's communication device to establish a secondary communication between the first caller's communication device and the third communication device. The secondary communication informs the first caller of the interruption of the primary communication and provides options regarding the primary communication to the first caller.
