    • A clutch mechanism has rotational driving force outputting members connected to a rotational driving force input system, rotational driving force receiving members connected to a rotational driving force output system, and a pressing mechanism for pressing the rotational driving force outputting members against the rotational driving force receiving members to keep the rotational driving force outputting members and the rotational driving force receiving members in contact with each other. The pressing mechanism has a constant load applying means and a variable load applying means for together generating the pressing force which brings and keeps the rotational driving force outputting members and the rotational driving force receiving members in contact with each other. A value of a load generated by the constant load applying means being set to be less than the maximum non-slide limit, i.e., the maximum of the non-slide limit which is required for keeping the rotational driving force outputting members and the rotational driving force receiving members in contact with each other to transfer the rotational driving force.

    • A combined mechanical and centrifugal clutch for a motor driven vehicle which has several original equipment manufacturer's components including an inside and an outside pressure plate (70), also frictional material for transmitting torque through the clutch. A lock-up housing (84) is attached to the outside pressure plate and contains a number of pivotally connected camming fingers (100) that force the outside pressure plate into tensional contact wit the frictional material by the camming force of the fingers caused by rotational centrifugal force. The operational portion of the mechanical clutch is unaltered permitting mechanical release of the clutch with the centrifugal portion added to lock-in the torque transmitting capabilities permitting increased capacity and positive engagement. Selecting the optimum rotational engagement speed is achieved by the use of weights and altering the springs or changing spring compressibility.

    • A centrifugal pressure assist type clutch utilizes the constant force of compression springs and a variable dynamic force to load a pressure plate against a driven disc. The clutch is adjustable to vary the dynamic loading of the pressure plate on the driven disc and therefor the engagement force of the clutch with a flywheel. The clutch has a plurality of radially disposed release fingers pivotally secured to a clutch cover in a common plane normal to the axis of rotation of the clutch. The fingers are also pivotally secured to the pressure plate. Each finger has a lever portion which extends radially inward from the finger''s pivotal connection to the clutch cover for selective engagement by a clutch release bearing. Each finger also has a centrifugal weight to create a moment which is a function of the rotational speed of the finger that tends to pivot the finger about the pivotal connection to the clutch cover and force the pressure plate against the driven disc. The adjustment of the dynamic loading is effected through movement of the position of the fingers'' pivot axes on the clutch cover relative to the finger pivot points on the pressure plate and therefore the moment of the fingers at a given rotational speed.
