The housing may be adapted for receiving the elongated support. The elongated support may be configured for being associated with the housing, and may include one or more, e.g., a plurality of engagement element receivers. The plurality of receivers may be positioned sequentially along a length of the support and may be configured for receiving a portion an engagement element. The engagement element, therefore, may be adapted for removably engaging the engagement element receivers in sequential fashion, wherein the sequential engagement of the engagement element receivers by the engagement element causes the elongated support to move. The modulator may be associated to the engagement element and configured for modulating the engagement of the engagement element with the plurality of receivers.

    • An extensible supporting strut including an inner sleeve and an outer sleeve. Each end of the supporting strut has a supporting section. The inner sleeve is formed with several engaging holes axially arranged at equal intervals. A base seat is connected between the outer sleeve and the inner sleeve. Two locking lugs laterally extend from the bottom of the base seat for locking the outer sleeve. The base seat has two symmetrically extending sideboards each having a head section. An engaging member and a handle are pivotally disposed between the head sections of the sideboards. A pivoted end of the handle is formed with a stepped protruding push section. The engaging member is pivotally disposed in the handle and has a pivoted end formed with a toothed section. The middle sections of the sideboards are formed with a pair of aligned through holes. A fixing pin is passed through the through holes, a resilient member and a pawl. By means of the resilient force of the resilient member, the pawl is inserted into the engaging hole of the inner sleeve.

    • The jacking apparatus comprises a load frame adapted to move relative to a rail having single slots longitudinally spaced therealong. A pawl carriage is disposed inside the frame for movement relative thereto. A single, double-acting hydraulic actuator is coupled between the frame and the carriage. A pawl member is vertically supported by the carriage for pivotal movement between two diametrically-opposite positions. The pawl member has a claw foot shaped so as to fall into successive slots. The claw withdraws from a rail slot and permits linear motion of the carriage over a distance equal to the actuator stroke, near the end of which the claw falls into the next slot. The claw will then permit linear motion of the load frame during the opposite stroke of the actuator. The reciprocating strokes of the hydraulic actuator produce alternate incremental movements of the load frame and of the carriage.

    • A bumper jack for vehicles is provided having improved stability. This bumper jack includes the usual ratchet bar and load lifting housing mounted on the bar for movement therealong. According to the novel feature, the load lifting housing comprises steel side walls surrounding the ratchet bar, with these side walls at one side of the ratchet bar forming a lower inclined bumper engageable ledge and an upper inclined bumper engageable ledge. At the lower edge of each ledge is an upwardly projecting finger member, with each finger having an upwardly and outwardly sloping edge adjacent a ledge, forming a trough between the finger and the ledge. These fingers are adapted to extend through a pair of vertically aligned slots in a bumper, thereby providing both lateral stability and fore and aft stability when lifting a vehicle.

    • A jacking device consisting of first and second tubular members which are telescoped with respect to one another and provided with a simple and inexpensive means for adjusting the length thereof. The device also includes a third tubular member telescoped with respect to the first tubular member and a spring for urging the third tubular member to an extended position with respect to the first tubular member. Simplicity in the adjustment means is achieved by forming a series of longitudinally spaced passages in the second tubular member and forming a support shoulder which includes an annular collar on the other tubular member at one end thereof. The adjustment device consists of a bracket and a lever arm pivotally mounted on the bracket. In use, one end of the lever arm is located within one of the longitudinal passages of the second tubular member and the free end of the bracket is mounted on the support shoulder of the first tubular member. The lever arm is then pivoted about the fulcrum mounting on the bracket to cause the free end of the lever arm to engage the second tubular member and to move the second tubular member outwardly with respect to the first tubular member, the bracket acting as a support for the fulcrum point of the lever arm. A simple mounting for the third telescopic member is achieved by forming rearwardly inwardly directed waist portions in the first tubular member and the third tubular member and locating a pair of discs outwardly from each waist member and retaining each disc against a predetermined movement with respect to one another by extending a bolt therebetween.

    • A jack stand comprising a hollow column supported in an upright perpendicular position by a base plate at its lower end with a post telescopically supported within its upper end for extension relative thereto and a saddle at the upper end of the post. A pin mounted in inclined slots in the column by engagement with one of a plurality of notches on the post holds the latter at a predetermined position of extension.     • A ratchet stand device includes a base joined to a top member such that congruently aligned openings, allow a post having a plurality of locking teeth on one side wall to be snugly inserted through the aligned openings. A ratchet part is pivotally disposed in a side aperture of the top member. The ratchet member may be released, whereupon, a spring urges the ratchet part back to forcibly engage one of the teeth of the post member. The first position of the ratchet member is safely maintained via a locking rod. The selected position for the post member is maintained irrespective of the weight of an object disposed upon a saddle of the post, until the object is removed and the locking rod is removed.
